Will not stay running!?!?!

Its an early 85 944 n.a. I filled up the tank took a 45min drive(highway) stopped for 20mins. Started it back up, then drove 10mins(city) stopped for 2-3mins. When i got back inthe car it started for about 2secs and then died. The times following that it wouldnt start, not even for a second. Towed it home andlet it sit for a day. The next day I went out to try to start it and it turned over, fire, and run for about a second, just long enough for the tach to reach around 1k. Then it dies out. I have spark, and fuel at the injectors. Checked the Air flow and TPS sensors and they both seem in working order(checked as per Clarks-Garage) This problem is something I just cant figure out. Please help!!! Any thoughts would be great help. Thanks.

Sounds like a huge vacuum leak.

Doc,
Can you give me a place to start? Maybe a good place to find a diagram or something of that nature? I want to get my car running, I feel lost without my car. I know you are the man to talk to, and i might not have all the questions but........[:@]

You could also still have a DME or relay problem. You have fuel at the injectors, but are they firing? When was the last time the DME relay was replaced?

hello, i read in a magazine that the problem you are having can be caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulater, or dampner, i cant really remember to be honest, hope this helps

Also you might want to check your J-boot, top and bottom to make sure you dont have any major air leaks.

Same problem but with another car (not a porsche), turned out be the fuel pump. Oftain even if you have a full tank and the pump is blocked by dirt of whatever you'll have this kind of problem. An easy way to tell if this is the problem is to have someone try to start it while you bang on the gas tank (with a stick or something farely solid). This will jar the dirt from the pump and allow you to start the car just long enough for you to drive it to the garage.

RE: Will not stay running!?!?!

Hey guys,
I am having the same problem with my 83 944. I found I can hold the slightest pressure on the keys and it will continue to run. If I let go the key they will back off ever so lightly and the car dies as if you turned the switch off. Do I need to replace the portion of the switch that key fits or the actual switch behind this unit? Any help would be greatly be appreciated.
Thanks
