97-04 Porsche Boxster Reliability

Hey guys & gals, I am thinking of purchasing a 97-04 Porsche Boxster and was wondering if there are certain years to avoid due to mechanical issues? I checked the consumer report reliablility rating, the Boxster was given a score of 34 out of a 100. Click on the link to view the report http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...-boxster-2.htm

Also are there known problems to look for when purchasing a pre-owned Boxster?

Thanks,

Ed

Look at it objectively. A '97 boxster is a 14 year old car. It was a very durable car once, and quite reliability, but any of them now are old and going to give occasional problems. Add into that the fact that they are inherent expensive -- not frightfully so but still expensive -- to maintain, and they are going to cost a lot in continuing up-keep. but then the cost of boying them is low. You decide.

And '04 is newer, but still going on 7-8 years age and going to start giving problems.

I'd recommend either buying a new one (and making sure you can afford that), or making sure you have the cash flow to pay for some noticeable expenses month to month to keep it running. it will be one or the other. You can't avoid it.
