99 Porsche Boxster engine failure
my 99 boxster failed at 78K miles. they suspect the sleeves dropped and caused engine failure. this is a common problem with late 98 early 99 engines.
one of the two Porsche garages in San Luis Obispo told me I could put a 2.7L engine in it...that the bolt patter matches..plug n play, if you will. the other garage told me it would need upgrading because the 2.7L is an E throttle and not a cable. They also told me the 3.2 (boxster S) would fit easily as a replacement because it has the cable throttle. I would need the wiring harness and the computer. they also recommend the IMS update. So I contacted a (reputable) junkyard, looking for a 3.2 L . first off, I would incur a core charge and get stuck with my engine because the VIN numbers don't swap. secondly, they tell me the 2.7L will work but the 3.2 L will NOT work, and that all of them have E throttle and modifications would be needed. The yard has a 2.5L with a 6 month warranty but has no way of knowing if the sleeves were upgraded..they say it would be veyr costly to do so. So I have three different stories from three different places. I need help. Anyone? |
