Kara's HoPE helps families with children facing a debilitating brain condition known as Holoprosencephaly, or HPE. This condition is a birth defect of the brain that results in a malformed cerebellum, given that the brain even forms at all. Stuart and Nancy Palmer lost their daughter, Kara Faith, to this condition in February 2010. Although medical personnel offered the Palmers the option of early termination, that was never a choice for Stuart and Nancy. Nancy carried Kara to term. Kara spent 49 wonderful days with her family before she became too tired to continue.
Our ultimate goal is to create a fully funded endowment that would be self-sustaining and would allow us to concentrate on meeting the needs of the affected families rather than concentrating on the dollar amount.
