Jack points
 

I have a 2003 Boxster. Where is the best place to lift the front of the car to place jack stands to remove the front tires. I assume the jack stands should bepositionedunder the lift points on either side for the best stability. In the backI use the aluminum rails to lift the car, then place the jack stands, but don't see anything quite that sturdy in front. Any advice would be appreciated.

There is a lift point under the center of the door, raise one side at a time, put the jackstand on the front jacking point (behind the front wheel at the corner of the fender underneath is a plate). Then go and do the other side so it is level.

Doc, I don't see anything under the door area. Is the spot easy to locate? I don't want to ruin anything. It all looks like plastic/fiberglass molding.

If you have any rocker panel aftermarket trim of plastic I don't know what to tell you. But if it's stock, there is a long vertical welded thing along the entire length of the rocker panel around 1/2" vertically. Those are strong ,but personally I used a piece of 4X4 Gouglas Fir and cut a channel around 1/4+' wide and almost the depth of the thing I mentioned (around 1/2 - 3/4" deep). I cut these blocks around 4-5" long and use them to protect the car and distribute the lift force over the length of the wood. You'll need a low "race jack".
I'd leave those aluminum things that you described alone. Don't lift on them. There is a center point about where those alum things come together that is a recommended lift point for the entire back end. Be SURE you are not lifting on the engine or trans, or it will be your last lift.
