I have another question for all of you experts out there. I love the way my Boxster handles (1997) infact it handles better than any car I have driven. What I am not impressed with is its power (sorry everyone), maybe once I get it running right (see other post) it will be faster but with only 155hp to the wheels I doubt it. So, to my real question, what are some of my options for breathing some life into this beast.

Thinking intake and exhaust or something else cheap

Evo intake, a muffler (dansk, etc), and GIAC flash are about as good as you are going to get. We typically see about 27hp and 30tq gains from the 3 together. It runs about $2195 for the package. Your only other real option is to supercharge, which will be upwards of 8500 by the time it is all said and done.
