Please Clarify: Warm-up or No?
 

Had a question i was hoping to get some advice on with regard to warming up the car (97_Boxster) vs. start-up and drive. Was advised by mechcanic/seller of need to warm the boxster up as it holds 9 qts. oil. so, for the past 6 mos. have made a point to warm the car up to operating temperature before driving. however, thumbing through the owner's handbook, pg. 47 clearly states the opposite, 'start and be prepared to drive'. am a little confused? any opinions appreciated.

Start and drive unless the weather is below freezing. No need to warm the engine up to operating temp before driving. Obviously you don't want to be mashing on the throttle hard until the car is fully warmed up though.

I've always felt the the fastest and most efficient way to warm up a car is to start it, make sure your pressures and guages read normal and drive away under light load (partial throttle). Excessive idleing just increases fuel cunsumption. The key is light load....like the post said before...keep your foot out of it.
