Porsche Boxster Help
 

Hi everyone I just joined the site and I was wondering what you think of this. I am looking at a 1998 Porsche boxster in white that has 84,000 miles and a tiptronic transmission. The man selling it only wants $14,000 and it has a aero kit. This would be my first porsche. As far as the car goes what are the pros and cons? How much do they cost to maintain? Boxsters in general are very good cars, requiring not much more than gas and oil on a regular basis. The early boxsters (97-99) had a few issues that could be catastrophic, but they are not all that common. Slipped cylinder liners, rear main seal leak, and the catastrophic convertible top failures can all cost an arm and a leg to fix (The RMS only being about $1.5-2k). In 2 years, I have had 1 boxster come through the shop with a lining failure, about 6 rear main seals, and 2 convertible top failures....and I shove a lot of boxsters through the shop. So those aren't bad numbers. With 84k miles on the car already, the cylinder liners are more than likely ok, as they usually fail early. Ask if the RMS has ever been replaced, and check to see if it is leaking. 14k, if it is in good shape and hasn't been wrecked is a good price. You can barely buy a 968 with that kind of mileage for similar money.
