Possible clutch problem.
 

Jusxt Bought a 2000 BoXster, 2 weeks ago. Love it , but yesterday I washed it and took it to the store and noticed during hard acceleration the rpms would drop slightly before it would finnally rev up. My thinking is clutch slippage? My wife fueled it up witxh 91 @ shell the night before I drove it. Everything seemed fine prior. When I got home I could smell what seemed to be clutch material or brakes. Newbie w/ porsches please help only 26,000 miles .

Go on the highway in 4th or 5th gear and punch it. If the rpms go up fast, and the car doesn't seem like it is accelerating, then the clutch is slipping.

Thanks ,doc for the info. Tried your tip, heres the deal. Between 1sxt and secondx gear there is no lag. 3rd , 4th and 5th gear between 2000 rpm and 4400 rpmwhen punched rpm drop (lag time) then gradually sxtarts to accelerate, once X@ 4700 rpm goes to full power. At 5000 rpm in any gear no rpm drop. What do you think? Thanks for all youre advice!!!!

If a clutch is slipping, the rpm's are not going to drop....they would go up very fast, with the car seeming like it isn't accerating any. What you are describing sounds like hesitation. Has the ecu been reprogrammed?
