replacing cv joint

Hey, whats the easiest way to get the axel out, thinking about taking the suspension apart, but seems a little bit of work. Is there any other way of doing this? Also how do you remove the cv joint from the axel itself? Are there 1 or 2 snap rings holding the joint on? I have taken one off, but it's being held in there by something, let me know guys, thanks.

You need to drop the lower crossmember on that side, remove the catalytic converter, then you can remove the axle from underneath the car. Obviously you will need to remove the large nut on the end of the stub axle to pull it out.

The The outer joint on the boxster is not replaceable, but the inner should is. Remove the snap ring and you can pop the joint of the shaft.

If the outer joint is bad, you need to replace the entire axle assembly.

If you are just replacing the inner joint, you can do with with the axle in the car still, just let it hang and replace it from there. No need to remove the outer end from the car.

I tried doing the inner while it was still in the car, got the boot off, and the snap ring off of the joint, but it's not coming off the axel. Any reason why? Also don't have very much clearance so I'm thinking it may be easier to just get the whole axel out. Let me know what you think. Tried pulling on the cv joint to get it off the axel but just moves as if the snap ring was still there, is there one or two snap rings?

Tap it inward with a hammer. Only 1 snap ring on the outside. The joint is still a bit of a press fit when going on and off, so it takes some force to pop it off.

Ok so the cv joint is able to come off now. I just don't have enough clearance to take it off the axel completely. It's the driver side, so there isn't much room for it to hang. However there is a black bracket thats goes to the transmission, looks like if I take that off and support the transmission it will have enough room, can you confirm this? If not, how exactly do you get the exhaust sleeve off that is to the rear of the triangle flange. Let me know, thanks.

Slide it off using a punch and a hammer.
