TACH Stuck above 7ooo on 01 Boxster

Hi Guys,

I've owned this 01 Tiptronic for a few hours now. Its sweet. Just dropped off. Engine - Smooth. Handling I expected. Easy top operation. Discovered to get the electric gauges to turn off on has to lock the car from the FOB - Porsche idiosyncrasy.
BUT - When winding it out I noticed (doing about 80 in 5th in AUTO) that the rpm gauge was pinned at 8. I most definitely didn't start my drive with a misbehaving tach - was operating fine. It went back down to about 6 laying off the gas but never returned to normal. I'm going to let it rest over night. Any thoughts? Haven't seen this issue in the forums yet so I hope its notthing too heavy. Thanks for any feedback
Ray

Boy that's a new one to me. Hopefully it will settle back to normal, but if not, you might contact north hollywood speedometer to have them fix it.

p.s. the instrument lights will shut off after there is no activity in the car for about 5 minutes. No need to lock the car.

Thanks Doc. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. It didn't go back to normal after all this morning. I'll get it to a speedo specialist of look up the Hollywood fellows you mentioned. It is running fine outside of that. Only thing I can think of is when last night I was running it through the Tiptronic (first time user of that system) I gummed it up. Hopefully it'll settle back.

The fellow I bought it from told me about the Airbag light before I got it. He claims it wasn't on until after he head the window regulator replaced on the passenger side. The Airbag was never deployed. I read a forum post that the belt receptor is something to look at for that warning light, unless a relay in the door got tweaked when he put the regulator in.

Had her out purring today and let me tell you, its so much fun.
Thanks again,
Ray

He might have unplugged the connection for the passenger side door air bag, so I would pull the panel and double check that first if you don't have access to a PST2/PIWIS/Durametric. If that is plugged in, then the likely culprit is one of the seatbelt buckles with the passenger side being most common.

OK. Good news. It has returned to normal and is running like a champ. How did it fix? The Porsche Whisperer! My friend Eric (mechanic) who did initial inspection and transport got in the front seat, it went down to 5K, turned the electric on and literally the needle zipped back down to normal - its afraid of him taking it apart!
Let me know if any of you all need Erics #.

Thanks for your feedback Doc and I'll let you know what I figure out w the airbag light.

Any go-to spot for wheel emblems? I need two of the silver for the Turbo wheels.
