Engine Dressing?
 

Hi. I'm new here... but don't hold that against me.
I'll try to make this as short as possible.
After 6 mos. and 12k miles, I had a little accident with my 2008 Porsche Cayenne S.
I took it to the Porsche Dealership. They had it for over 4 weeks.
I also had the 12k maintenance performed at the same time.
I drove it home (3hrs away) and smelled something under the hood.
I popped the hood, and it looked like oil over everything under there.
The dealership said it was Engine Dressing. But I dont think it was.
It looked like oil and felt like oil. Also my service order said only 6.8 quarts vs 9.
I even asked for the product id of this dressing, but they couldnt provide me with one.
Something smells funny here, and it isn't the tuna! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I really could use some help here. Please help restore my faith in Porsche (or at least us drivers).

I think I know why so many of these questions go unanswered... it's because they seem to 'disappear' after one day. I came back out here, and it's showing me no threads. I had to 'search' to find this one. Maybe if I bump up the volume, will it re-appear??? But I'm still looking for some advice. Thanks.

It appears internet brands acquired this forum and has upgraded the software, which appears to have deleted a ton of posts. Not sure what is going on yet.

Edit....if you go to show posts at the bottom of each forum post, you can show threads from the beginning. For some reason it is set to default only today's threads.

I think the engine dressing thing is BS personally, if it looks like crap, smells like crap, then it is probably.......

Not sure if I got the story right, I'm not sure what you mean by little accident but I've been employed by Porsche and a few other franchise dealers over the years, and there is one thing that many dealership service departments include as part of their delivery protocal, and that is after servicing your vehicle they will perform a general clean-up (wash and vac) and an engine shampoo including dressing (commonly known as tire dressing.)
