Something's Fishy
My serpentine belt broke so took it into nearest porsche dealership to have it replaced. They advised me when the belt broke off it cause damage to steering pump, crankcase breather hoses, water pump, deflection roller. And it also caused water pump to start leaking coolant. :eek:I get the feeling im being upsold. When serpentine belt breaks off can it really cause this much damage? I would've thought the porsche engineers would've thought about all this  Would very much appreciate your feedback if you have any knowledge with this issue. thanks

When a belt breaks, it can whip around and get jammed under various pulleys. Hard to say if it could damage all those parts, but one or two I could see. One of those parts failing may have been the reason the belt broke in the first place. Have them show you the broken items in person before they tear the car apart.

I'm not a tech guy so even if they showed me, I would have no idea. Long story short, I had the car towed 300 miles to have somebody else I trust look @ it. He was the last person to work on my car and told me it was the belt when I got stuck on the freeway. When he looked @ my car, he told me he found lots of parts missing and had evidence of tampering.

So is this a common issue with porsche? what are the odds of this happening?
|
Odds of what happening? The belt breaking? Any serpentine belt will break given enough mileage.
|
not the belt braking due to normal wear and tear, but when the belt breaks causing over 3k estimate in damages.

If there was possible tampering by a dealer to make extra money, we should let other members know about it.

The dealer i went to and will NEVER EVER go back to is Gaudin Porsche out in Las Vegas. I'm guessing they think they can do this since they're the only Porsche dealer out in vegas. And after how unhelpful PorscheUSA was, i'm leaning towards bmw, audi, or maybe even a mercedes for my next car. They were more interested in protecting their ass in a possible lawsuit, which i wasn't planning on in the first place, than the real issue.
