Just spun out, holy crap...

Last Friday my first Porsche (a 2001 996 C2) finally got here. Just a couple of hours ago I was joyriding witha friend, and while goingaround a corner toa highwayonramp, punched it a little, and next thing you know I'm way oversteering/compensating, then finallystopped facing the other direction. For some reason the car wouldn't start up right away, maybe the engine was flooded (?). So I sat there for a couple of mins facing oncoming traffic, then we got out and pushed the car off to the side. Finally the engine started and I was on my way. And no, I don't have PSM. But man the back of this car slips out easy!! There was a wall on the right but luckily I didn't hit anything. [sm=smiley5.gif]

You have to realize, all the weight is in the rear of the car, when they start to slide, you have to get out of it quickly and hang on. Much different in a spin than a front engine car.

I would highly advise finding a local track and participating in some Driver's Education events. They are not only a blast, but you will learn the limits of the car, and what to do when it does start to slide. Your local PCA club probably hold quite a few during the year. Also, for $40 a year usually, you can sign up and become a member of your local Audi or BMW clubs, who hold similar events. At least that is what everyone does out here in Kansas City.

Ya these things SUCK for that! I drive an 05 911. I spun out coming home one night going around a corner and it slipped out from under me, i tried to compensate and im usually good at doing so but it just whipped around so fast!! I was making a right, it slid out to my left i got it to come back and then it just kept going and slid around to the other side of the road into oncoming traffic and hit the rim square with the curb. I did a little over 17K in damages!! it was facing the right way so i thought fast and dropped it into 1st and jumped on it to keep up with traffic! pulled over to the side and the rim was snapped, brakes were thrashed and snapped the disk. Snapped the suspension in the rear and snapped the rear axel! I did a number to it but thank god me and my passenger weren’t hurt AT ALL and made it home fine!

Wow that sux. It must have been interesting to watch from the outside :) Glad noone got hurt. I went to my first Autocross with my 996 a couple of weeks ago and it was TOTALLY worth it. My beast and I are now one. I have a video from that day if you want to take a look. You might have to sign in though...
