Do larger tires really close the wheel gap?

I'm trying to get my head around this theory. Some say you can close the wheel gap by adding larger tires, but my thinking is, wouldn't the wheel/tire still be centered at the axle? So your car may sit up higher, but the wheel gap would still be the same, no?

Of course, I'm not talking massive mud tires, but a modest increase of maybe 1 inch in tire size. How much of that really goes to the wheel gap? Maybe .5 inches?

I'd love to see pictures if anyone has any before and afters.

Wheel gap being addressed by wheel repair.... am I missing something?

Larger wheels in diameter or higher profile tires will reduce wheel gap

Or lowering the car on its current wheels will also accomplish your stated goal
