Default 88 Carrera

I just purchased a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe which has been parked for at least 5 years. I replaced the fuel lines, filter, plugs, plug wires, dist cap, rotor and drained the fuel tank.

Now the car starts but the idle goes up and down up and down. What could this be? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. Id start by checking out all vacuum lines.

The sunroof on this car does not open is there a manual way to open it? Thanks

I do not have access to a smoke machine what is the best way to find for vacuum leaks aside from visually checking?

As far as the sunroof goes, start by checking fuse #13 and relay R21. If they are both good, it is possible the drive motor has failed or the 2 cable drives have failed. I'm not sure about a manual way to open it.

Best way to detect a vacuum leak if you dont have a smoke machine would be by listening with a stethoscope on the various hoses while engine is running.

Good luck

Hi answer 2 your first question , on the roof lining at the back u will see a zipper undo this and remove the panel that hides the motor drive 4 the roof , u then remove the motor and turn the gear drive manually.

Answer 2 your second question remove the idle valve and clean it with gasket remover aersol can made by permatex , what happens the valve gets carbonized and starts 2 stick and cannot see base position .The next thing u need 2 look at is the oxygen sensor ,if it has never been changed ,change IT,this also can effect the performance and general running of the car.
