Hey guys, i'm seriously considering purchasing and building a 914 but really don't know where to start, which model, year, motors... I'm looking to basically build a street legal/road race car. Starting to do research, any suggestions?

 

I dont think the year is as much of a big deal as the condition of the vehicle. If you are looking to build a performance porsche 914 I would just look for one with no rust problems and then go from there. Considering the engine that comes with is probably no good id just get a new engine, transmission, and suspension. It sounds like it'll be a fairly expensive little project.

I did a little pricing for you on the car itself it seems they are pretty much between 2.5k and 10k depending on the miles. (full search results)
But since it would probably be a good idea to ditch the above mentioned components just get the cheapest one with no rust. I would advise getting a Toyota ZZ class engine, Subaru EJ205, or a Mitsubishi 4b11 or 4G63T. those are all 4 cyl engines that can easily be modified and turbo/supercharged
