DIY maintenance and repair
Hi,
I am new here. this looks like a great place to learn about these beautiful cars. I am considering buying a 2003 996 and I was wondering how difficult is to do stuff by myself, I have a 3 series BMW and Pretty much do everything myself.
water pump replacement
belts
brake pads
oil
water hoses
thanks

Waterpump: pretty easy, bleeding can be a pain, but once you figure out how, it isn't bad.
Belt: Easy
Pads: Easy
Oil: Super Easy
Hoses: Easy, though again you run into the bleeding issue.
Now for the other stuff:
IMS bearing/Clutch/RMS: Difficult for the home user
Coolant Tank: Medium
Wheel Bearings: Medium provided you have the bearing tool
Ignition Switch: Easy with the right tool
Oil Air Seperator: Difficult
Belt: Easy
Pads: Easy
Oil: Super Easy
Hoses: Easy, though again you run into the bleeding issue.

Thanks for the reply. I done coolant tank and water hoses on my BMW also did Valve gasket and Vanos, cleaned MAF. I am pretty handy with tools. so you are saying that I will be o.k if I get a car that is good condition and do the proper maintenance. I am not sure how reliable porsches are my BMW has 128,000 and the only problem I have was at the beginning the alternator belt snap and made a big mess I was new to this and not able to the repair myself; later I discover that it was so easy to do. then the same alternator failed and need to be replaced.
