After a long time it looks as though I will finally be getting my first Porsche...

I am considering either i) a 1997 911 993 with 122,000 kms which is fairly well equipped for its time or ii) a 2007 911 997 C4S with 100,000 kms which is essentially fully loaded [i.e. 19" wheels, ceramic brakes, full leather, PCM2, sport adaptive ad fully power seats, etc.] most of which are allegedly highway miles...

I will *likely* be using either as a daily driver and am therefore leaning towards the 2007 C4S as it is newer the of the two, it has been cared for and owned by a enthusiast who has taken immaculate care of it [i.e. clear bra in multiple locations, new Pirelli P0 tires, etc.] though I do love the lies of the 1997 C4S...

In an event I would appreciate as much information as possible on the following"

1. As choosing between the two [1997 C4S @ $42,500 versus 2007 C4S @ $55,000] which would you prefer and why?


2. As far as the 2007 C4S is concerned

a) Are there any known issues with the model which I should be aware of or should make me not consider / purchase this car?

b) Is there a big difference or should I be concerned that the 2007 C4S does not have the direct fuel injection, the electronic all wheel drive or the revised PCM that the 2009 and later models have [NB. I could care less about PDK [as I want a manual transmission] or the lighting changes]? And why or why not?

c) Should I be concerned about the relatively high mileage? And why or why not?

d) What specific items should be checked during the pre-purchase inspection?


3. What other advice / thoughts should I consider recognizing that I know little about cars other than what I like...

Since this is a daily driver, go with the 997. It is four years old versus fourteen years old and that is the determining factor.

And no, it does not have the features of the 09 and later cars, and there will be cars that come along in future years that make it (and the 09s) more obsolete by having even more advanced features. The 997 is a really good car overall (at least if you get one in good condition). 100K km is really not a lot of miles.

1. Over the next 3 or 4 years which is how long I plan on keeping the car how much more do you think it will depreciate...

2. Why, i your view, is 100K kms not a lot of miles.
