Default options with which cars to get, two involved

ok, here is my dilemma. i will be living where some snow will be an issue. what do i do, go with a 996 carrera 4 and a 986 boxster to modify, or new 987 boxster s and get a like 15-20 grand SUV. does anybody have a carrera 4 and have driven it in some snow with winter tires???? how did it do???

Well, here goes. I live in Montreal, with 5-6 months of cold weather and snow. There are Porsches around all year round. More often than not, you'll see the Cayenne, but people do use the Carrera and Boxster. The Carrera can more than handle snow and is probably a joy to drive in it. However, it does depend on how much snow you'll be driving in, seeing as how the Carrera is a relatively low car, but it does definitely hold its own. If you're considering a Carrera, I would definitely suggest the Carrera 4 so that you have all wheel drive, which is the best for winter driving. Of special note however, is what will be put down by the city when the snow does fall. Around here, the city likes to use a lot of salt. Salt is notorious for prematurely retiring cars due to corrosion. You can wash your car on a regular basis to prevent build-up, but it quickly becomes a hassle. This is probably the number one reason why there are not that many Porsches being used during the winter months. Perhaps, you should consider buying the Cayenne so that you can enjoy a Porsche all year round without too much worry, or pick up a "winter only" car so that you can savet he best for the summer. All the best with your decisions, hope this helped a little.
