Default 944 engine

I have a early 944 that makes a strange noise when it is running. It sounds like a an engine with 2 or 3 loose rocker arms. The higher the RPMs the faster the clicking sound. It seems to be coming from the front half of the engine on the pasenger side. Its about 4 times louder than the fuel injector noise. what is it likely to be?

Default RE: 944 engine

First i would check the status of the balance shaft belt inside the belt cover, that may have broken and could be what you are hearing. If that is not the case, then i would look at exhaust leaks probably coming from cracked headers. Could also be a bad lifter.
