Default burned oil smell after acceleration

Hello group. First post here. I tried to find a search feature before posting but was unsuccessful. I have an 01 996 with 52K miles which emits a strong odor of burned oil after any reasonably hard acceleration, even if only 20 seconds or so. It lingers a while then disappears. REcently I lifted the hood after revving the engine and tracked the scent to the airbox. A small amount of smoke was exiting the airbox connector to the engine. I have had the car for 3 years with purchase mileage of 17K and must confess it has always done this but now I want it fixed because I am selling. I have an extended warranty which has been helpful on other repairs. I have heard of problems with oil leaks with 996s. Please advise.

I'm surprised Porschedoc has not given you some thougts on this. My thoughts are that if the oil is coming from the Air box this points towards either 1) higher than standard pressurisation in the crankcase, usually as a result of some compression bypass from one or more cylinderbores (worn bores/rings), or 2) exhaust valve guides being a little worn and increasing air/oil mist.
Either way the increased air/oilmist then get sucked into the Air Box and that what you, I believe, are observing.
As you have got an Extended Warranty I would use it. Start say with a compression check on each cylinder.
A question is your oil getting "dirty" quickly after a change?
I believe the 996 had some crank seal problems on the earlier engines, as well as some problems of cylinder head cracks that could lose oil into the cooling water and vica versa.
Anyway use your Extended Warranty this gives you good coverage on Engine wear issues
All the best Big Bob
