I was watching an old episode of Friends (1996-2003?) and Gunther mentions that the Porsche is not his seeing as he makes $4/hr and sarcastically replies that he saved for "350 days" to buy it.
Assuming a 12 hour work day, he would make about $16,800 in those 350 days VT55 OBDII. So that makes me wonder if they were really around that price when they first released.

I highly doubt it, unless he was buying it pre-owned then the price point of about $16,800 does not sound right. I would stipulate that a starting price upwards of 40 grand sounds about right for that time frame and for that car, especially when it had only recently hit the market.
