I have a 99' 911 and over the past few months, the engine seems to be getting louder. This happens when I'm driving from 35-55 mph. It seems like it may be tied to the transmission. I push in the clutch and the noise stops.

A local shop heard it and saud it's the main bearing and I need a new transmission....ouch.

Any thoughts, ideas or alternatives.

I know the main seals on these early 996 cars go out, but...

Where are you located? Maybe a having another shop look at it might be a good idea.
