Valve adjustment?
Hello all,
I have recently purchased a 1991 964 C2 that currently has 47K miles on the odo. I think the last big service including the valve adjkustment was at 30K, but I cannot confirm that for certain. I am getting a dollar figure of at least $1000.00 to do the adjustment from various mechanics. It sounds like an all day job even for the experianced mechanic. This car is not a daily driver for me, I have plenty of time to work on it. Is this something I can tackle myself? I am very capable, but frankly this car scares me a bit. What would be a good repair manual to have on hand?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Valve adjustment?
A valve adjustment isn't that big of a deal, but on a 964 it is definitely a time consuming job. Typically I charge 8 hours to do a valve adjustment on a 964. Obviously the only other cost than the labor are the new valve cover gaskets. You need a specific feeler gauge to do this. A 964 really isn't the car you want to learn a valve adjustment on, because most of it is blindfolded work. On an early 911, it is much easier to see what you are doing.
