Hello. I'm a new Porsche owner and convert. I used to drive Hondas but my 99 Accord, although paid for, was getting too boring. It wasn't as reliable as my last Honda but the V6 made up for the boring part. </P>


I had been looking at used Jaguar XK8's because I liked the styling a lot. I wanted the coupe because I never saw a lot of those on the road although the convertibles were plentiful. I also thought about the new Corvettes but I see those on the road everywhere.</P>


Anyway, to have some more fun until I bought the Jag, I bought a 1990 VW Cabriolet. It was a lot of fun driving it and we took it to the beach every chance we got, but the previous owner apparently didn't care about maintenance. I was planning to fix it up with a new stereo system and beef up the engine, brakes and suspension, but I spent more money just keeping it safe and never had money left to do what I really wanted for it.</P>


I finally decided to get something else. I knew I wanted a convertible now and I guess I could live with the Jag convertible but I checked out the back seat and I don't even know why they even put one back there. It would be a great place for a subwoofer though!</P>


I had also looked at the MR2 but it had no cargo area to speak of. The S2000, although very nice, was a Honda and I gave up on them. The Miata was another thought.</P>


I saw a come-on ad for a local Mazda dealership and decided to test drive a Miata to see if I liked it. I am 6ft tall so with the top up, my head was practically touching one of the top frames. I would hit that with every bump in the road. The trunk held our beach stuff so I took one for a test drive with the top down. Again, my height put the top of the window frame right in my field of vision. No Miata for me.</P>


As I was leaving, the salesperson asked if I wanted to take the Porsche for a test drive. I saw the Boxter when I drove in but didn't have any plans to buy it. Anyway, I said "Sure!" and to my girlfriend, "Babe, you want to go for a ride in a Porsche?" I had thought briefly about a used 928 but dismissed the idea after thinking that I might end up with another poorly maintained car. And this one wouldn't be as cheap to fix as the VW!</P>


Sowith the top up, I had enough headroom. After we figured out how to get the top down, we took it for a test drive. I fell in love with it. I spent the next evning negotiating for it and the rest is history. I am the proud owner of a 2001 Porsche Boxter. </P>


My sons like to drive it too!</P>
