Need advice on a 911 purchase
I too am a Porsche newbie in need advice from you guys with years of Porsche experience.
I would very much like to purchase a 911 cabriolet somewhere in the 1999-2003 year range. My questions are;
Are there certain years that were less problematic than others? I'm very mechanically inclined as I used to be an American car tech in my past life but I don't want to get into something I'm constantly wrenching on if you know what I mean...
Is it better to look for an older model (late 90's) with less miles (20-40k) or a newer model (02 or 03) with more miles (50-70k)?
Is there inherently more maintenance associated with the awd model?
Is the tiptronic trans reliable or should I stick with a manual trans?
In ordering an independent vehicle inspection prior to purchase from a non-Porsche dealer, are there any red flags I should look for? There seems to be very many wholesalers across the country selling late model Porsche's for under book value.
I very much appreciate your time and wisdom regarding this. If all goes well, I soon will be an active member on your friendly and knowledgeable forum!
Thankx,
Rob
