Default 1958 356A rear plate removal?

Hi all - I know this sounds like a dumb question, but how do you remove the rear license plate on these cars? The screws just turn, which leads me to think there is a nut on the back, but I can't see removing that material on the inside of the engine area. It looks like it's just going to crumble. I wouldn't be surprised if there was asbestos in that crap.

Thanks.
Perry

Edit: figured it out. You can access the nuts from underneath.

This is not a dumb question . Most of the people around me has faced the same problem with their cars. I just want to suggest to take this matter to an car expert. He can suggest you is it worth to change real plate or not.
