I am new to this forum. Is it appropriate to talk about Porsche 356 replicas?

No, it is not a Porsche. There are two types of "replica" 356s out there.

Several manufacturers cut short the chassis of an old VW Beetle (original type) and mount a fiberglas body on it. They rebuilt and hop up the VW engine. This is rather close in spirit (and many parts), to the actual 356 which was also Beetle derived, but the real 356 had a metal body. The interiors (of the better repro dealers) are good but are not completely matching the quality of the original. I've seen some that look quite good, and they sound like 356s, but they are not Porsches - they just look and sound like Porsches.

One company makes a steel box section frame and uses a Suburu motor. Fiberglas body again. Much much faster (up to 265 HP) - these look pretty much like a Porsche, but are faster than any 356 ever was and sound nothing like them - but again they aren't Porsches.

 

Not all Replicas are created equal. Some are tube frame Cars with 911 motors, some run Subys and Audis most run VW Pans and Type 1 or IV engines.

True none are ever going to be real 356s but the Porsche Club that I am a part of would much rather see me bring out Ava versus my 911.

IMHO her Flat Six 2.7 RS Motor makes her even better than the real thing.
