Default 1984 a/c blower motor

need a little info = does the whole evaporator box need to come out to change the fan motor or can you just pull the top of the box off without discharging the system& disconnectingthe coolant lines 1984 3.2 carrea

You can remove the evaporator box top off without removing the whole thing - but it's not easy. Getting it back on will be even harder. There are 4 clips that have to slide off tabs on the edge of each cover and they are a PITA to remove and replace.
