If you are certain the consumption has deteriorated to 300, then take it back and discuss with the dealer. 300 is a little high. Even I who does not mind oil consumption, for reasons I've documented on other threads, that needs checking. Regards Big Bob

Thats why I think it is very important to be sure its doing 300. Another thought is to get someone to follow the car when its being driven to see if there is a continual light haze, not detectable through the rear view mirror, but might point to a regular loss through the combustion chambers.

Possibly, but when you can smell it, its usually bad and you can see it through the rear view mirror. But if this is a higher RPM issue you will need some one to watch it under load.
Running it at high speed in idle may not show it up.
Anyway its an interesting mystery that I hope we get the answer to.

You should be able to see it on the down shift.

With that much consumption you should see more than a light cloud
