New to the forum, so apologies if I am asking something that's been answered elsewhere / before.

I'm trying to make a 'smart' decision between a 2004 CS4 Coupe and a 2004 CS4 Convertible. I'm tempted by the convertible, but Colorado climate can swing pretty harshly between snow/extreme cold and sun/extreme heat. With 300 days of sun, I'd be able to take the top down pretty much 9 months of the year, until I bake to a crisp and/or get way too hot.

Part of my contemplation is that this will be my primary car. Two factors I'm wondering about in particular:
* more flexible than the coupe
* more noisy than the coupe

What are your experiences & thoughts?

Gabe--I live in Colorado as well and know what you mean. I opted for a Targa. You a coupe and a convertible in one without sacrificing a less ridid frame in the convertible, noice etc. The Targa has a modular sliding glass roof with 16.6 square feet. It's really nice!

 

gabe... driving a convertible is a TOTALLY different experience... i drive my convertible turbo when its nice (then again i live in florida) and a 7 series bmw when i want a more quite relaxed ride. so if you have a 2nd car, GET THE CONVERTIBLE!

as far as noise.. the convertible tops are pretty solid... road noise isnt TOO bad... much better than in a corvette or mustang.. but any convertible will be slightly louded than a coupe.

 

Thanks, guys. I searched far & wide for a Targa, but didn't find one. I have since purchased a 2005 (Nov. 04) C4S with 35K miles on it. I put new Michelin's PS2s on the sled, put it through the Porsche dealer for a thorough inspection, and I'm *ecstatic*.

For the upcoming winter, however, I will indeed buy a second set of rims + winter tires for it.

Hi I think you chose correctly. Rag tops are not a real solution to getting the sunshine and wind in the hair. Now a folding metal roof thats different. So if you want a Porsche 911, a Coupe' or the Targa are the best choice - in my opinion.

Paid $53.5k, got it out of the L.A. area. Car was purchased from the Beverly Hills dealer. Still under warranty until November 08!

It has full leather, BOSE stereo, heated seats, power + memory seats, logo embossed in the headrest. Don't even know whether these are in fact options; they may well be standard for all I know. :-) The only thing I'd like to have had is a rear wiper.

I must say that the car is in great condition, but I have had to spend some money to get it to a near-excellent condition. I've put on new brakes + rotors (both in the rear) and a new set of Michelin PS2s. The interior is in TOP condition -- good as new, even smells nice. The exterior, I'm going to get thoroughly detailed to remove a few *very* minor scratches. I've already put a clear bra on, and I'm contemplating a light grey tint...

I'm confident, certainly with it being under warranty, that I won't have any major maintenance that'll break the bank. At least; not this year! :-)
