Default 265 vs 285 tires for my 996. Any recommendations

Hi,

I'm going to need new tires for my 2001 996. The rears are 285/18's, but there are spacers (car came factory with 265/18's). Does anyone have advice on how the car will feel going back to 265's and what tire brands/models is everyone having the best luck with. I'm in Southern California, where I need a good dry tire, but it does rain a bit in winter and I don't want to find myself sliding on the freeway. I also rarely push her over 140 mph in the dry and 100 in the rain.

Thank for the input.

Greg

Hello Greg,

I have one little tidbit of data. I replaced my Continental tires on my 1999 Porsche 911. I had a little road acident so after modest repairs I took the car to have it speed balanced. These guys showed me my brand new tires are out of round by about 1/8 of an inch. he said you would bearley notice it but it is there. it is noticeable.

These guys who do not sell tires said "althought i do not like French xxxxx, they make great tires. They went on to say they have never had a out of round Michiclin set of tires. Did and the car is smoother.

The tire sizes I can not talk to other than I always stay with what the factory recommends. In most cases you will get your best perfprmance from those.

good luck,

Lee
