Default 911 Engine Cleaning

i just purchased a 89 911 cab with 27K in perfect condition. i want to maintain the condition, but wanted to know the do's and don'ts of cleaning the engine. Should i not attempt this? The engine isn't greasy or dirty, but I want keep it well maintained.

A rag and some elbow grease. Don't bother trying to powerwash anything but the underside.

thanks for the reply. any particular cleaner and are there components i shouldn't spray or clean?

No, just use common sense when cleaning things.
