Default 996 c4 manual in the snow??

I'm in Toronto Canada and getting into my first Porsche, getting a 2000 c4 6sp. (around 85000km). I'm planning to use it as a daily driver 365 days a year (in winter with winter tires). Has anyone driven c4s in the winter? I asked a local independent mechanic that specializes in Porsches, and he said that he has numerous people that drive their c2/c4/boxters in the winter and everyone seems to be fine and dandy.

Any feedback?

Thanks.

Put on a set of Blizzaks, and you will get around better than a lot of SUVs

Docs reco on tires is most likely correct. The key point that I learned the hard way is not to use the "Z" rated tires in the winter or below 40 deg F. The compound becomes very hard and just horrible in snow and ice!

On a short 10 minute trip home in bad weather (snow & cold) It took 8 hours and getting pulled back on the roadfour times. Only time in my life I have been scared in an automobile. The car just could not be controlled, no traction., Zero! My car was a two wheel drive so your should be better. I suspected the car to be great with the engine at the rear. It is with snow tires.

In Germany it is illegal to run "Z" tires in cold weather.

Good luck to you.

Thanks guys. I would certainly be running winter tires, and most likely not 18" but smaller 17's..

I just read your post. I'm in the same boat, looking at a TT for all year driving including our Calgary winters. Do you have any news re your C4 winter driving, choice of your winter tires, etc.?
Thanks.

I am also in Toronto. Had an '02 c4 cab with 4 snows with never a problem. Now my '06 C4S cab has the original 19's with 4 snows and it runs better than any 4 wheel drive out there.
2 Saturdays ago when we had that huge storm, it was a little tricky in that the car is low and you can feel the snow scraping (softly) underneath on an unplowed street.
Overall, it is one of the best cars out there for snow..
btw, Pfaff Porsche sells really nice Champion rims which are great for summer when you have you snows on smaller rims for winter
