Default 996 c4s cab (car fixing problem)

Dear all,

I'm a newcomer in this web and have heard there are quite a number of experts who could possibly provide a good advice for my problem.

The case here is as follow.

I have bought a 996 c4s cab two years ago and the car has been running so smooth and in perfect condition. I have brought the car to porsche service centre a few days ago for a regular check up and the service adviser told me that there is some problem to the engine as they have found rats biting all around the engine though nothing really severe has happened to the engine but the some of the electricity things has to be replaced. The quotation of the fixing price is ~US7,900. I almost had a heart attack after I heard the news.

The following is the actual quotation the advisor has quoted me.
- Replace engine harness and electric harness on rear left body, oxygen sensor. price: labor: US462; parts US5,078.
- remove and re-install, cabriolet roof assy, engine assy, interior rear seat, trim cover, rear bumpercover to assist work repair. price: labor: US2,086
- refill coolant and bleeding after work. price: labor: US115; parts: US179

Many many thanks if anyone could provide me some ideas on the fixing price and the so called engine problem quoted from the advisor. Is it really such a big problem which cost such big amount to fix? I am really looking forward to seek some advise. Thanks.

Have you noticed any problems with the car lately? Does it run poorly? Does the top not work? For that kind of money, I would wait to do the job until something fails, lol.

The car runs perfectly fine. The only thing I could noticed is some biting trails from the rats inside the engine and the tech. advisor said the wearing of the electric harnessmay cause engine short circuit or even small explosion if it is not fixed.

Thanks for your advise though.

Wow. I'm putting a cat in my engine compartment as soon as I get home!
