Default Airbag Issue - Help

I recently bought a 99 Cabriolet with 7K miles on it. The puppy is basically brand new.

The airbag indicator recently came on. So I brought it into service. I was told that this is a common problem with 996 of that year. This is due to the pin connectors used in the seat belt buckles. They would need to strip the wiring harness, replace the belt buckles and test the airbag computer.

Here's my issue. If it is a common problem and they have addressed it by crafting a new part, then it really should be a recall item. Yet I am asked to cover the cost. Yes, my warranty has expired. But my vehicle currently has 8K on it. It's not a wear and tear part. More importantly, it's a safety issue. I've called their 1-800 number and spoke to a very pleasant young man that basically gave me the corp script on the matter.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue, or any other issues in dealing with Porsche Corp before?

Thanks
