Default Clutch problem lever will not disengage

I have an emaculate 84 911 SC Cab. I have a problem with The clutch and I don't want to pull down the engine if I don't need to. The problem is the clutch is in the engaged position and the lever is in the release position. I believe the problem is a broken lever or thrust bearing and would like some advice on other possibilities before I pull down the engine.

Please give me your thoughts on what you believe the problem could be.
Thanks Rog.
