engine blown

Thumbs down engine blown

I took my 1999 c2 in for a 45000 miles service about a week ago. Got it back the next day and it felt like a brand new car. A couple of days ago tried to start it but nothing worked. Got it towed to the dealership and few hours later I get a call from the service guy telling me that the engine is blown and it needs to be replaced.
Does it make any sense to you guys? Isn't the service supposed to detect these kinds of problems? I bought this car brand new and I’ve always kept up the maintenance and I only drove 150 miles since the service. If I decide to go ahead with the work needed how do I know that it wouldn’t happen again next week?
Any advice is appreciated…

Unless there is metal in the oil when they drain it, there is no way to determine when an engine is going to fail unless it is making horrible noises. Was it a dealer that did the service? When you went to start it, did you have power to the accessories, dash lights, etc? Did it just not turn over or what?

Yes, the dealer did the service. Always used the same dealer shop since I bought the car in 1999. Never had any problems with the car so just the usual scheduled maintenance.
All the lights on the dash were working fine, it just would not start. The service guy said the coolant leaked into the pistons and caused the engine to blow. I have to assume this must have happened during the night because it was driving fine the day before.
