Default False info from dealer on 996 purchase!

[size=2]I just purchased a clean 99 996. The dealer represented the car as a one owner car, all original, with no major repairs. I asked to get all of the service records when I purchased and it took them 3 weeks to get me the service reports. After reviewing them, I found several irritating problems. One, I am the third owner, and the motor was replace becasue of the RMS issue. I found the original owners name and number and called him up - nice guy. He told me the motor was replaced at 34.000 miles under warantee. In a way this is good because the factory rfemanufactured motors are suppose to be pretty good, but I was pissed off that the dealer did not tell me about this before I purchased. Long story short, the dealer will either give me my money back, or split the cost of an extended warantee. What should I do??

Hi T,

Since you asked here is my 2 cents.

If you like the car, and it sounds like you do or you would not have purchased it in the first place, I suggest you go for the warranty deal. Many, many, far too many Porsche's have the rms problem. I agree with your take that the fact that you have a remanufactured engine is a good thing not a bad thing. I agree the dealer should not have given you false informaiton but I consider his offer of money back or spliting the cost of an extended warranty more than fair. I would not own a water cooled porsche off waranty.

Again, just my 2 cents.

Enjoy,

Steve

Did you have a prepurchase inspection done on the car? I am confused as to why you would be mad. You have a new motor (reman from the factory is as good as new), in a car with 35k miles....this is a 'pro' not a 'con'. Split the cost of an extended warranty and be on your way

I agree with the Doc. Take the warranty and enjoy the car with no worries [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
