Default Gas Gage

So I needed gas and the light came on.
I pull into the station and filled up but the light stayed on and the needle did not move.
Finally after 4 hours and 23 miles all was right with the world. Any ideas?

When gas guage light goes on and there's no sunoco 94 around, I'll only put in $20 of the 91 octane. The light stays on and the needle doesn't move. the Navi reads the fuel range at zero! I know the mpg's so I'm ok with that. Apparently that is some kind of Porsche nuance. It happened the same on my '02 C4 just as it still does on my '06 C4s. I guess the gas floating thing needs more gas in the tank to shake it into operating position...

Ok thanks. Some kind of comfort in knowing that I am not the only one.
