Hard to start when hot
Have a 79 Targa - 85k miles - seems very hard to start once driven and then sets for about 30 minutes. Car in great shape overall 8.5-9 - but this mystery plagues me. Remove air filter cover and expose metal plunger pump at fuel distribution area - once car is turned on and fuel reaches I manually pump a few times and engine will fire. Cold firing / starting usually not an issue. Anyone have any ideas?

RE: Hard to start when hot
Might want to check your fuel accumulator and your fuel pump check valve. Both will cause similar issues.

RE: Hard to start when hot
Doc,
Thank you, somone else on the West Coast mentioned the fuel pump check valve as well. Any ideas on repair / replacment costs for either / both? Have a good service company locally (Dave White - you may know them) that can service. J |
RE: Hard to start when hot
The accumulator isn't cheap (around $150 IIRC), but the check valve is. Probably want to do a fuel filter at the same time since you are right there. I would imagine it will be a couple hours of labor.
