Default Mileage on Michilin PS-2's??

I have an '07 Targa 4. I purchased it new and it now has about 16,500 miles on it. I wonder what kind of mileage I can expect on the Michilin PS-2's before I'll have to replace them?? The car was stored for the past 3 months and I just took it out today. I was surprised to see the air pressure was perfectin all 4 tires butI did notice what appears to be very loud roadnoise from the tires at 65 MPH. I examined all 4 tires and they still look very good. Any idea why the loud road noise??

Thanks in advance..

Did you inspect the inner section of the rear wheels? There is a lot of negative camber in the rear of a 911, and the tires will wear on the inside much faster than the outside. People usually just look at the outside of the fenderwells, see good tread, and think the tires are good, when the inside edge is bald or down to the cords. Not to say that is the case here, but be aware of that. If the inner tire still has tread, my guess is the tires are cupping (probably again on the inner edge), and causing the road noise. 20k out of a set of rears is doing really good.

PorscheDoc brings up a real point to consider. I had the rears on mine go at 8K miles because they wore the inner 1.5 inches badly. Near the end the last 50 miles or so, they made so much noise that I was actually on the way to the dealer thinking I had a bad rear bearing when one blew: it had worn down almost to the steel belts on the very inside edge.

Hi "Doc" and Lee, You guys hit the nail on the head. I took a good look at the inside of both rear tires and they both show major wear.. This sort of reminds me of the front tire "feathering" on my '03 Nissan 350Z. By the way, the fronts look fine.. I just called my garage and he's trying to get me a new set locally.. If not, I guess I can always order them from Tire Rack.. Until then, I'll just park the car..We might have a few inches of snow sunday anyway..Thanks again..
