Default New 997TT - Tiptronic faster than Manual!

I received via FedEx today a envelope direct from Porsche on the New 997TT. The headline was "We wanted you to be the first to see the new 911 Turbo ... "

In the letter sized postcard of the new TT - picture on front, specs on back, the acceleration times show:
0-60mph 3.7sec manual, 3.4sec Tipronic S !!!
1/4 mile 11.8 sec manual, 11.6 Tipronic S !!

So have they geared the Tip so low now that it outdoes the 6spd man? If those numbers are true - I'd go the Tip! This was confirmed at the official Porsche website...

They also have a new Turbo setup with extra, movable fins on the exhaust side of the turbo, that open and close to control the volume of gases being channelled into the turbine. They claims it 'banishes' lag - not that 996 has much anyway....

They also show 480hp and 235/35/19 front tires, 305/30/19 rear. Not to mention the new 4wd setup that operates much faster at transferring torque front/rear than the old viscous setup...

Default RE: New 997TT - Tiptronic faster than Manual!

Rich,

Saw an article today at the bookstore on the new Turbo. I think it was in Car and Driver. I don't think they mentioned the Tip vs the manual. I think that preference is all in what the driver wants out of the driving experience. With only a 2/10's difference in time, that is basically a washout.

What would you rather drive, stick or tip [sm=gears.gif]
