I just brought a 2002 991 and had similar budget. I was able to get a low mileage 17K, from a Porsche dealership with one year left on the original warranty and two years added as part of the certified used Porsche deal. It also had the 18" wheels, adaptive sports seats, and technic package.

I'd like to know exactly what technic package inlcuded on the 2002 C2. I think it's the headlights package and on-board computer. Great benefit of the on-board computer is it checks oil level for you and shows level in a digital gauge.

I've only had it for a few days and it's the first porsche I've even driven let alone owned and it's soooooo sweeeeet.

My advice is go for the newest and cleanest car you can afford with a warranty.

There's a buying a used Porsche 911 book on amazon that's well worth the $20 and goes through every model year thru' 2001 and tells you want to look for with each year in terms of problems. Lots of pictures as well.

Harder than even the car payments is going to be not getting a ticket. It's just so easy to put your foot down when passign and finding yourself doing 80-85-90.....

This was my christmas present for myself. Always been a dream of mind to get one before my 40th. I made it by 2 months. Wife has out-done herself this time, pushing me to get it. Guess it's going to be diamonds for the next five years but it's worth it.

Hello folks, a new member from California here [sm=hia.gif]

I am looking to trade in my bmw 330ci for a 911 of some description, right now I am leaning towards the Carrera. My budget will be around $45k. But before I go out and find one I need to read up on them more. Also one of the things I need to ensure is that I can drive it in my garage (it is somewhat steep), so I need to check out the road clearance. I have a feeling it will not clear, which means I am not going to be able to get one unless I mess around with some concrete (I am not going to leave it parked in the car park where I live, I'd not be able to sleep). I've checked a few places, I cannot find any info on the riding hight of the front of the car. Do you guys know of a place where I can find this information on various versions of the Carrera? Also is there any other place (other than autotrader kevfan mentioned), where I can read up on reliability, features to have and not to have, running costs etc?

thanks,
frank

I just purchased a 2000 911 C4 Cab for just under $48,000. I found an excellent site where I purchased mine. Check out eCarlink.com

Here is a picture of mine...I love it and would recommend eCarlink. Good luck.

The book referred to is "The Used 911 Story" by Peter Zimmermann. An excellent read. I'm in the same position, looking for a used 911 around that $45k mark. I still have two kids to put through college so I can afford a new one yet.

If you drop the 50k on the car, drop an extra grand and put in an Sr-7 laser detector with ZR-3 laser jammers, or get a valentine 1 (which obviously doenst have jammers), they will let you enjoy the car a lot more Hope you guys enjoy

You should realize that you are looking at two very different ranges of 911's--specifically the 1997-98 911 (aka 993 body) and the 1999-2002 (aka 996 body).

The 993 is the last of the air cooled 911's. It is highly regarded due to this fact and it's curvauous body style.

The 996 is the first of the water cooled 911's. It does not seem to garner the same hard-core P-car enthusiasm, but is still a very good car.

Depending on years, the 993's can actually cost more than some of the 1999-2000 996s, when similarly equipped.

Because your search spans this monumental change in 911's, I wanted to make sure you were aware of it.
