PCCB on 996 Turbo Cabrio (2004 model)
I am looking at buying a new 996 TT 2004 cabrio. The car is fitted with PCCB brakes. I have read some horror stories regarding their reliability and not sure what to believe. I am a casual user and will be lucky to put 2,500km/year on it. At times, I will give it a hard run but no track work. Do all PCCB versions have a problem or just a batch or model 996? What should I look for on the rotor/hub or caliper to identify if I am buying a problem? Much appreciated if somebidy could advise.

Sorry, I'm not sure about reliability problems with PCCB. I do know that theyare yellow. For anyone who doesn't spend significant time on the track, I think that's the main advantage over the standard brakes.But overall, i think the market considers PCCB to be a very desirable option.Seriously, any mechanics out there, please provide an example: what sort of driving would it take to overheat the standard 2004 911 brakes?
Thanks Johnny C. I'll be more specific regarding my concerns. I have read several forums and the problems I have read were regarding PCCB's on GT2 cars around 2003/2004. I assume that the 2004 Turbo are fitted with similar PCCB's but smaller diameter to the GT2. The PCCB problems may have been due to the diameter. There are references to PCCB Generation 1 and Generation 2. I believe the latter are OK whereas Gen1 were duds? How would I know that the PCCB's on the 996 Turbo I am looking are Gen 1 or Gen 2 and if in fact there is a problem? I gather from your comments that it is only affects cars used for track work in extreme circumstances? Once again, I appreciate any help, as it is the final concern before making my big decision to purchase.
My comments were admittedly open to interpretation. My point was not really directed to your situation- it was merely that I believe PCCB is not a particulary useful option on a vehicle that will only see street use. In your situation, the car already has the ceramics, and you want to know if they are a ticking timebomb waiting to consign you to steep repair bills and discouraging trips to the vet. Unfort.
