Default Porsche 996-7 Turbo or 996-7 GT3? Iam having trouble deciding.

Ok so Iam looking to order either a 997 Turbo although I wouldnt mind setting for a 996TT... I drove a heavily modified turbo and I thought it was awesome. However, I drove a GT3 and I think its the car for me. I liked it more because there is always torque on demand, the 8250 redline, the overall feel of the car, and its so easy to drift with it, plus the PCCB brakes were amazing(I drove a 996 GT3). The turbo you have to really drive it fast to feel it...the power quicks it at 4000RPM + it needs modifications. The Gt3 really cant be modified from what I hear... can I buy the Gt3 RSR motor? Which car should I get...and which one is more reliable.

Current cars:
1997 Boxster
1994 Mazda Rx7 420 BHP.

You might try getting your hands on the March 2007 GT Porsche magazine. It has a comparison between the 2007TT and 2007 GT3.

I'm not sure about your comment re having to drive the turbo fast to 'feel' it. I drive a 996TT and there is little need to drive fast to bring on the power. Today I had a bit of a run with an Audi RS6, the fun is about bursts of acceleration, not a high speed pursuit, the later wil definitely get you spotted by the cops. If you want to spend time at track meets then the GT3 would be a better choice.

Tough decision to be faced with, many would kill to be in your position!!

Well said Scott!

I couldn't agree more.

Never driven it, but the 997 GT3 is clearly the one to get from what I've seen. The top car magazine in the UK wrote it's the ultimate porsche, the perfect porsche. Nice, eh?

I'm getting a GT3 next time, most likely - it will depend on what's offered in about two or three more years. The GT3 is certainly the more interesting and serious car in my mind. The 996 and 997 Turbos are very powerful for factory cars, but I have my other cars for real power and nothing stock even comes close. What I like about the GT3 is the refined, perfect balance of the car coupled with that incredibly responsive engine: to me Posche has always been about engineering, balance and control -- not absolute sheer power-- and the GT3 is the ultimate expression of that.
