Default What years to avoid?

I would like to purchase an air cooled porsche probably from 1978 to 1995. This will be my first porsche and if I'm not mistaken 1997 was the last year of the air cooled 964? So, which years are preferred as far as performance and reliability?
Thanks

I think it depends on what you're going to use the car for.... I think each has it's own personality. The older cars are probably best suited as limited use cars, although I have friends that use them as daily drivers...

The newer the car, the better the creature comforts,as such its probably better as a daily driver. A noted authority, Bruce Anderson, has written "buy the newest car you car afford"

Most important, I think, is the condition of the car... Based on a good PPI
