Default A few "newbie" questions

I've only had my 924 for a couple of weeks, and have a couple of things that I am totally clueless about. First, there is a key lock in the body about three inches behind the drivers door that doesn't seem to operate anything. It's driving me out of what's left of my mind.
But the real problem I m having is that there are no hood struts, and no where to attach any on ther car, or on the hood. All I have to hold the hood up is a metal rod that seems to go in a notch on the drivers side of the car. It does hold the hood up, but when raised the hood has a real twist from being supported on only one side. Was this somenthing that our little friends in Germany did on the '80 models just to confuse us?

That 2nd key lock is for the alarm. Hopefully someone has deactivated it by now.

Yup, the hood rod was standard on the 924, the hydraulic struts did not appear until later in the 944.
