in tank fuel pump

in tank fuel pump
I'm wondering if I can get by with not using my in tank fuel pump (which has died!)? I've replaced the in line pump and am wondering if it is strong enough to keep the car running. Or does it really need to have the fuel forced to the main fuel pump to run properly? Thanks

RE: in tank fuel pump
The real problem is the in tank pump if it is not running will act as a significant resistance to the in line pump and that would be suction trouble anyway. I think you are going to have to get the tank out and sort the pump. Unless you can find away to put a new pick up pipe into the tank and bypass the tank pump.

RE: in tank fuel pump
Thanks for your answers jay and Bigbob! Jay its a non turbo model, I think that year both cars had dual fuel pumps (believe me I've worked on it enough to know the difference!)
Bob, that's a point I hadn't even considered. The germans do things forgood reasons so I guess I'll have to suck it up and part with the $150.00 dollars to keep my toy running! Again, thanks!!!!

RE: in tank fuel pump
Pull the tank, and pony up the dough to buy a new pump!
